Thatch never told me the names of these ink drawings. They were so new that I doubt they even had names. Im not going to bore anyone with a long winded description… some of Chris’s best and purest work. Miss you homie.

After the shock of Thatch leaving so abruptly, after the chaos of rushing to get all of his art scanned, after the chaos of settting up for the art show, after collecting Thatchers belongings from the local police… after all that, there was just sadness. Fuck I haven’t even sent Chris’s things back home to his family yet. It’s bittersweet to have part of him still hanging around. I’m still waiting for him to come crashing through my door with a megaphone, a six pack, and a skateboard. Anyway I’m ready to do this again, to confront the fact that Chris is gone, to honor his name, and one way or another never let the world forget about Christian Thatcher. Artist, skateboarder, one of my best friends. With that said… here is another Thatcher illustration.
Come Celebrate the life & art of Christian Thatcher.

We’re looking forward to a night of good people and good times. This Friday night September 10th, we will be doing a final showing of Chris’s art before it goes back home to his family in Minneapolis. The show will be at 26 Davenport Street in Somerville, NJ 08876. This is an open invitation to Chris’s friends and friends of his friends to look at some art, tell some funny stories, and create some new memories. There are a lot of folks we havent even spoken to yet… I know everyone needs a bit of closure. Hope to see everyone there.

A few years back Thatch was commissioned to do a comic for the Ben Davis clothing company. As a comic book fan, Chris was suped about the job. In the years before he always talked about Thrasher comics and how it was a huge mistake for Thrasher Magazine to stop doing them. Like in all of his work, in this one Thatch dropped in a heavy dose of his own personality. Chris was a severe localist… he believed in community. He was loyal to his old friends, loyal to his skateboard company… Sacrifice for life right? He called this comic “Blatant Localism” to people in the know, everything thing that appears in this comic has a heavy New Jersey graffiti vibe. NAVY 8, CHIP, NACE. All legends in the Graff game. Even one of the main characters is based on another Graff legend (and one of Chris’s best friends) IRONY. He made this comic in Minneapolis, but to his old homies out here in NJ we felt like he was making it just for us… and in a way I think he was. And then there’s the “Old Growler” character who is a representative of another one of Thatchers most heralded values… RESPECT. Respect for the elders, the legends, the dudes that did way back when we you were just a piss pants little kid. His core values were incredible… solid gold.
